One of the most classic venues in the area is surely The Fonda Theatre. Built in 1926, The Fonda still retains its Roaring Twenties decor and elegance. Not too big and not too small, this classic spot is the perfect place to dance. The acts range from small and local to big and famous – The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder and Katy Perry are among their recent headliners. Another class is the Hollywood Bowl. Similarly to The Fonda, the Hollywood Bowl has been a Los Angeles staple since the 1920s. Frank Sinatra played there in 1943, and the Beatles in 1964. The traditional bandshell venue is perfectly built for California weather. There are onsite food stalls, but also plenty of room to bring a picnic. Packing is tough at this venue, so arrive early.
Looking for something more like La La Land? Los Angeles has many venues where you can take in the best of jazz. One of the very best in the country is The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage. Named for two of Los Angeles’s main art patrons, this elegant venue is great for many genres of performance, but the jazz lineup in particular is critically well-received. Another more cozy spot is the Vibrato Grill Jazz. Designed by the trumpeter Herb Alpert, this jazz club has performances six nights a week. Make sure you make a reservation for dinner and a show!
