Taxi vs Shuttles to Disneyland

When you’re planning your trip to the happiest place on earth, managing how you’ll get there is part of the fun – or, at least, it can be. There are so many options to travel to Disneyland; how do you know what the best option for you is?

Those headed right from LAX or John Wayne Airport to Disneyland Resorts will agree that the go-to options are taxis, rental cars, and airport shuttles – and that you are best to avoid public transportation. Each has its own distinct advantages and drawbacks. Whether you’re headed from your hotel or from LAX directly to Disneyland, do your research and pick the right transportation service for you and your family.

Driving and Rental Cars

If you already live in Los Angeles, Anaheim, Orange County, or many of the surrounding areas, you might consider simply driving to Disneyland yourself. Or, if you’re going from the airport or hotel to the park, renting a car might feel like a more appealing option.

It’s true that, if you’re coming from an airport, renting a car from the airport itself may be the most convenient travel option available. A rental car, or your own, allows you to drive entirely on your schedule. Where your costs will add up on top of the price of the rental itself is in parking.

Drivers from out of state might find it surprising how few places there are to park for free, especially around Disneyland. The minimum cost of self-parking within the park itself is $40 for the first hour, with an additional $10 per hour after that, reaching a maximum of $80. This is an issue for locals and out-of-town visitors alike.

You’ll also need to factor in the price of gas, plus parking at your hotel. These will all add up during your stay.

Besides that, anyone can tell you that spending a full day at Disneyland is tiring, especially if you’ve already started your day by flying. The last thing you’ll want to do after an exhausting (but fun) day of walking in the heat is drive another hour back to your hotel or the airport. Taking a shuttle alleviates this pain, leaving you to enjoy your ride back in comfort.

Taxi & Ridesharing

Taxis and rideshares like Uber and Lyft are the quickest routes to Disneyland in terms of waiting at the airport. They will usually meet you right at the designated pick-up point and take you to a specified ridesharing point within Disneyland. These rides are private and convenient.

However, a taxi from LAX or John Wayne to Disneyland is also usually the most expensive method of transport there, and ridesharing apps are no different. The cost depends on traffic and demand. Surge pricing with shared ride services can be brutal, this is true even in the Magic Kingdom. The biggest problem in LA, however, is pirate taxi services: drivers without licenses who charge way too much. International travelers should avoid taxis from LAX entirely.

If you’re on vacation, you should be able to enjoy your trip without worrying about how to navigate the freeways and streets of Los Angeles. Don’t let your holiday be ruined by traffic, and let Xpress do the driving for you. Reserve a Disneyland Resort shuttle today.

Shuttles From the Airport to Disneyland

You’ve landed at the airport. The next step? Anaheim. With Disneyland being such a popular attraction, it’s not unusual that many airports will have shuttles leading travelers right to its front gates.

Disneyland does offer its own personal shuttle system, the Disneyland Express Bus. However, it comes with a few drawbacks. One of those downsides is that it operates on a fixed schedule and has limited pick-up and drop-off points. This could leave you and your travel party standing around and waiting for the next pickup time at a crowded, uncomfortable airport. Not only does this put a damper on your fun, but it also cuts down on the time you could be spending enjoying the park.

You can save money on a shuttle from LAX to Disneyland with Xpress by booking a round trip or reserving the service ahead of time online. LAX to Anaheim takes about 40 minutes, but riders should plan for, at least, 1-½ hours of travel time because of wait times at the airport and traffic. The biggest advantage to a shuttle is flat rates. Not only are Xpress Shuttles more spacious than a taxicab, but if you‘re stuck in traffic, the cost is fixed – no surge pricing or being subject to a constantly running meter. This means there is no surcharge while standing still. A huge benefit for driving in LA!
